The Ultimate Guide to Outdoor Bars and Restaurants in NYC

Now that summer is here and fall’s on the way, it’s definitely patio time in New York City. Everyone wants to enjoy mild, sunny weather, a few cocktails, and some delicious food before winter, but where should you go? Whether you’re new to the city, or you’re just tired of going to the same place all the time, we can help. We’ve been all over this NYC, and we’ve picked out a few of our very favorite outdoor bars and restaurants that you really have to try!

Azul on the Rooftop (Website | Map)

Inspired by traditional Cuban cantinas, Azul on the Rooftop is one of Lower Manhattan’s best outdoor dining and drinking gems. On the rooftop of the Hugo Hotel at 525 Greenwich Street, this outdoor spot is perfect for enjoying a leisurely meal or happy hour with friends. Plus, you’ll get a gorgeous view of the city skyline, including Lady Liberty herself, as well as a view of the Hudson River. So, if you have friends in town who want to see all of New York, take them for a drink at Azul.

If you’re in the mood for oysters, head over to Williamsburg for a relaxed, old-school venue dressed up in dark wood and tons of atmosphere. This New Orleans-style bar and restaurant does everything well, including their incredible selection of beers, their oysters, and their po’ boys.

Hotel Chantelle (Website | Map)

Another delightful rooftop bar between Lower Manhattan and the East Village, Hotel Chantelle is a great spot for day or nighttime activities. The brunch is fantastic, and later in the evening, you can grab a table with friends and listen to some of the best DJs in New York spin their beats. Plus, it’s climate controlled, so even on nights that are a little chilly or days that are a bit too hot, you can enjoy the perfect temperature while you eat or drink outside at Hotel Chantelle.

The Boat Basin Café (Website | Map)

Want an unforgettable dining experience on the water? Head up to the Upper West Side and get a table at the Boat Basin Café. The breeze off the Hudson River is to die for, and the view is amazing. Not only that, but the food is delicious and surprisingly well priced. And you won’t want to miss a chance to see the sun setting over the Hudson from this incredible vantage.

Clemente’s Maryland Crabhouse (Website | Map)

Want something a little more casual? Head back over to Brooklyn to Clemente’s Crabhouse, where you can eat and drink on the deck, overlooking Sheepshead Bay. With hammers for the lobsters and crabs, delicious oysters, and tons of other fresh seafood options, this is a spot you won’t want to miss, and be sure to get a plate of calamari while you’re there!

La Piscine (Website | Map)

Just southwest of the Garment District in Chelsea, La Piscine is a rooftop bar like no other. It’s known for its contemporary, sleek design, as well as its view of the Hudson River. The Mediterranean cuisine is impeccable, as well. And, of course, there’s the beautiful pool, though you can decide whether you want to bring a suit and take a dip or just enjoy the gorgeous view of the city and the cool breeze from the river.

New York is full of outdoor bars and restaurants. From rooftop decks to riverside walks and trellised patios throughout the city, you can’t go wrong with any of these. And once you’ve tried all of these gorgeous places to eat and drink outside in New York, venture out and try a few more. These are just our favorites, after all, though we think they’re all worth visiting more than once – sometimes more than once a week! So enjoy them all while the weather is still mild and sunny!
